Having a private jet aircraft was once reserved for oil barrens, business moguls and rock and roll bands. A private jet is expensive, it requires continuing maintenance, pilot salaries are high and federal hoops are in place to jump through concerning airworthiness and safety regulations. For individuals and even many corporations, the cost of buying and maintaining a private jet is out of reach and not cost effective. A viable alternative may be private jet charters.

Here comes a wrinkle in private jet rental, flying. Gathering momentum versus a legislation that could majorly hamper private plane rentals, is the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP). This proposed regulation directly aims at private plane rentals, joining them to the national security rules for all air flights. If the LASP is accepted, some of the changes will include:

  1. No last second scheduling or changes
  2. Passengers will now be patted down
  3. Air Marshalls will be assigned to the private jets
  4. Background checks for travelers and the staff
  5. Baggage checks with limitations.
